Casa Nanda
A 37 year old establishment, that has always had the same ownership.“Dona Fernanda” and “Sr.Canelas” are the owners; they have been colleagues for more than 50 year s and are both from “Arouca”. The service here is impeccable, and the people who work there are welcoming and hospitable.
The specialities include: “Bife de boi” Ox steak served with onions; “Cozido à Portuguesa” Mixed selection of meats and vegetables; “Filetes de pescada com arroz de feijão” Battered Hake Filets served with bean rice; “Peixe Galo com Açorda do mesmo” grilled Dory with seasoned breadcrumbs soaked in broth, a true delicacy. For dessert you can order the “Aletria” a rice pudding style dessert, “leite Creme” Portuguese crème brûlée, this dessert stood out for me, executed to perfection, and last but not least the Seasonal Peach Salad which is so simple but works so well. They proudly boast a wood fire oven, where everything is cooked, even the deserts, which also give a unique smoky flavour to all dishes, truly impressive.
This place was a true find for me. The food is amazing, the service is great and they have traditional dishes as well as uncommon dishes hard to find anywhere else. It’s difficult to find a restaurant these days that surprises you with their dedication and flavours, if you want to feel like a Portuguese mother is cooking for you visit “Casa Nanda”.
