Casa Guedes

Just thinking about this place makes my mouth water. This classic family restaurant run by two brothers and their wives, “César& Manuel Correia”, “Maria Albertina & Augusta” has traditional products and great appreciation for the ingredients they serve.

The speciality here is the “Pernil de Bísaro” pig leg sandwich, this species of pig is a northern wild pig that is fed exclusively on chestnuts; the bread that hugs the pork has been perfected by a bakery, which makes it only for them, so that as much sauce is absorbed, but still maintains its crispiness on the outside. Their secret is that they make on average, 10 legs a day, for the last 30 years and they concentrate the sauce from one leg to the other, making this sandwich a tasty miracle that will blow your mind. For dessert have the “queijo da serra” mountain sheep cheese with pumpkin jam. To drink I would suggest the “Espadal” young rosé wine which pairs perfectly with all this healthy cholesterol.

The wait for service here is only slow at peak hours; the best time to go is late lunch during the week. Even though it’s packed due to its popularity; the owners don’t want to expand, as they want the place to serve the same high quality food that they are known for. You may wait for your food, but it will always be served hot, with consistent quality and I can truly guarantee that no one in the world makes a sandwich like this one.
